The Perch, Coyote and Pelican are Tempest weather stations which use solid-state sonic anemometers to measure wind speed.
This type of weather station provides a number of advantages including accuracy and durability, however there are also a few
drawbacks. One of these appears to be that at higher wind speeds, especially when it's foggy out,
they sometimes report wind speeds higher than they actually are. This fortunately only seems to happen when the wind is greater
than 20mph. For more information, visit the Tempest
The Fort Funston meter is located at funston and is useful for estimating wind speed at the top of the cliffs.
The SF Bouy is located about 2 miles offshore.
